Hi,

The WCSF Documentation since February 2008 doesn’t have any particular consideration about it. If you look for it within the Issue Tracker, you will find only this thread.

Other than that, everything else should be working correctly. As for official support, you can be reassured that the sustained engineering team will provide the same support for IIS 7 than for IIS 6, if you find that something is broken in it.

As an FYI, based on that you are evaluating WCSF for a large .NET upgrade project, you might want to take into consideration that soon the patterns & practices team have plans to release a new Web Guidance, for further information visit this post.

However, this Web Guidance doesn't deprecate WCSF.

I was just reading Chris Tavares' Nov 2009 article in MSDN Magazine. Looks like Enterprise Library is moving forward with changes to support Unity and other .NET DI containers. Our production application is based on Web Client Software Factory 2.0 release and it is stuck with Enterprise Library 3.1. I am hoping I will not regret our investment in the Web Client Software Factory. I am hoping the community can re-energize the WCSF P&P team to update the Web Client Software Factory.

Hi guys, I just came across a few comments on the board that WCSF has known issues (with workarounds) on IIS 7. As we are evaluating WCSF for a large .net upgrade project, is there an official confirmation from the WCSF team that WCSF is not officially supported on IIS 7? Thanks!

Hello,

I was hoping I could have services that have circular references, but I'm having troubles registering services in my Module Initializer class. Below is the class structure I'm trying to setup.

    public class A : IA
    {
        private IB b;
        [ServiceDependency]
        public IB B
        {
            get { return b; }
            set { b = value; }
        }

        public A() { }

    }

    public class B : IB
    {
        private IA a;
        [ServiceDependency]
        public IA A
        {
            get{return a;}
            set{a = value;}
        }
        public B() { }
    }

When I try to register these services, I will always receive a ServiceMissingException when registering the first. Is this type of setup possible?

I have a module UserInformation and in the website of this module i have added one usercontrol login.ascx. Now i have placed the user control in the homepage of the website, and have called a method from presenter object. this method's logic is in Userinformationservice class so now i am getting this error please suggest what to look for.

We came accross this problem in our application and we came up with a solution.

In our case, the user control had its own presenter which also used interacted with a controller defined in the same module as the presenter. The issue was that when controllers are registered in the module Load method, they are registered only in the module's container - not globally. This means that the controller can only be instantiated if the DI container being used is from the same module.

To overcome the problem, we simply changed the module initializer's Load method to register the controller on the parent container (same as for global services).

I.e. change the following code...

AddGlobalServices(container.Parent.Services);
AddModuleServices(container.Services);

Are there any updates on this? I'm not concerned about the project continuing as much as I am about a composite framework for non-Silverlight web based applications. It would be really nice if the WCSF functionality was incorporated into Prism so that the composite core framework would be the same without regard to the target UI rendering platform. Like everyone else I want to have a pluggable DI container but just Unity would suffice. Leveraging MEF would be nice. Integration with EL 5 or 4.1 would be super. My final wish would be a quick start showing how these tools can be leveraged in Sharepoint (so that I don't have to build it.)

Hi,

I'm trying to reuse WebServices through SubWeb projects generated with the Business Module recipe. The webservices should be able to be called from JavaScript by using the usual ScriptManager reference. The webservices then use normal foundational modules through dependency injection.

So, the idea is to reuse the WebServices by creating a SubWeb Business Module in a separate shared folder, say:

c:\Projects\WebServices\SharedWebServicesSubWeb\SharedWebServices.csproj

Then any other WCSF WebApp should be able to include the SharedWebServices.csproj as a subweb and have the webservices available for use.

Is this even possible? Right now, every time I run the hosting WebApp, the WebServices from SharedWebServices.csproj are not recognized (say http://localhost/SharedWebServices/WebService1.asmx). My suspicion is that this is because the folder is not physically under the hosting WebApp root folder.

Is there a workaround for this?

The other two options that I'm considering are these:

- Make copies of the SharedWebServices on each one of the hosting web apps. However, this will create a maintenance nightmare that I would like to avoid.

- Make WebReference calls to the WebServices from SharedWebServices through simple proxy webservices that delegate to the SharedWebServices. However, in this case I would prefer to avoid creating the proxy web services and more important I would prefer not to incur in the extra network call that comes with the WebReference.

Hi,

In this case it could be an option to develop a foundational module that provides a service and from it call to the WCF service. Depending where you have to have access to the WCF Service methods you may consider to expose this service for a module or globally(all the modules).

That said, about your specific questions:

1. Can you add WCF service reference to both View and Presenter? ...

You can, but it would not be taking advantage of the decoupling the MVP pattern offers, because in this way you would be wiring up the view with the WCF Service and this is not originally idea.

2. In order to answer the second one, you may take a look to the following links about communication between view and presenter:

Hi All,

I am new to WCSF and MVP pattern.

I have created a WCSF visual c# web application and I need to consume a WCF service from this web application.

The service has 2 methods for gettting the data from DB and saving the data to DB.

I need to save the asp.net controls data and save to the DB using WCF service operation "save" . Similarly I will fetch the data and assign to the asp.net controls.

Here is my doubts?

1. Can I add WCF service reference to both View and Presenter? If I do so , am I violating the MVP design pattern?

2. If I add service reference to only presenter then how can I send asp.net controls data to presenter and and assign the data to asp.net controls by getting the data from presenter.

Here the presenter calls the WCF service operations to save and fetch DB data.

Can u share a simple code example for this scenario.

Hi,

I suggest you first check that WCSF dependencies are all green. To do this you have to execute “Web Client Software Factory - February 2008.msi” and in the main windows click the button “Check dependencies”.

If you have all prerequisites installed correctly, remember that in order to create a Web Site you must select the “Web Client Solution (C#, Web Site)” or “Web Client Solution (VB, Web Site)” templates, so when you select any of these templates you should notice under the solution preview that the recipe will create a Shell Module project and a Web Site project with a Default.aspx page.

If you continue having the same problem after review these tips, please send more detailed information about this issue, like:

Is .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 installed?
Operating System Version
Any other information you believe relevant

its compiling properly but unfortunately its not showing default.aspx page or any page..

I am using vs2008 ... in my opinion mywebApplication1 (name of my application) in the folder of website there must be WebApplication instead of website...

How to Fix this.. let me know plz

I've only recently really started using WCSF and ObjectContainerDataSource and thus far I have been using a DetailsView control to create, edit, etc objects in a list.

Now I've tried to use the ListView's insert functionality/template and came across this issue.

I am not sure if it really has been raised before, but see the code when a new object is created with the Activator.CreateInstance mad me think.

Why is it that the ObjectBuilder (or in future the IoC) is not being used to create a instance of the object? Surely this would solve other issues, like using interfaces instead of concrete classes.

And why was no event added as stated above (which already exist in the ObjectDataSource control!)?

I'm assuming this is being addressed, or maybe I'm just missing something in the current implementation.

Or there is a bigger picture.

I have implemented the SessionStateLocatorService in my class but it still return Null for the context (or any other member within the LocatorService for that matter), I'm obviously missing something but cant see what, I would post my code but i cant get access to it till Monday unfortunately.

Hi,

When you work with Async pages and want to have access to the HttpSessionState, you must ensure that the call to the module (where you are accessing to the session) doesn't occur inside the registered EndEventHandler method. This is because this call context(thread) neither has access to the HttpContext nor HttpSession.

Instead you can access to the HttpSessionState either handling the BeginEventHandler method or when the PreRender is completed.

If you need further information about how to access to the HttpContext from a module visit this (forum thread) thread forum, or in case you just want access to the session, you can utilize the service SessionStateLocatorService that is available to all modules.
